Entry: kerfuffle. Saturday, July 14, 2007

everyone this side of malaysia with access to the star/google/a kopitiam ought to know this by now, but cheryl s asked me to blog about it anyway, so i will.

nathaniel tan, PKR information bureau staff, resident blogger @ jelas.info. and cheryl s big brother, was arrested at his office yesterday at 5 p.m. by three plainclothes police officers under the cybercrimes unit of OSA. he was tried today at the remand majistrate court. apparently he s been remanded for four days or something. im a little fuzzy on the whole situation, but for full details, go to her blog.

i certainly don t profess to know much about our country s politics, but even to the politically ignorant (such as i), it s plain to see that barging into someone s private office and arresting him without being able to provide a valid reason to justify said arrest is nothing short of abduction. hello, it s called an infringement of basic human rights. in the first place, you can t just swoop into someone s office and drag him off to lock-up without some sort of explanation, or at the very least producing some sort of authoritative identification (they just said they were part of the 'Special Branch' and requested him to follow them). wah. so any tom, dick or harry sporting a tootbrush misai and police-y swagger can waltz into my house and arrest me now issit? eh, quite scary lah.

and secondly, what happened to freedom of speech and all that? jabatan pendidikan ought to seriously consider revising our moral syllabus, cos values like 'kebebasan bersuara' and 'kesederhanaan' obviously count for squat in our country.

please pray for nathaniel and his family. pray that he doesn t get mistreated wherever they re keeping him.

friday the 13th. hmmm.

Sitting here in my cozy little public library somewhere in this vast USA, let me tell you--I have no idea what you are referring to in this blog.

But you did ask about the freedom of speech concept. Freedom of speech - with no boundaries - is just a ruse. Those who truly understand the concept, accept its innate boundaries and any consequences.

But we have plenty of people here who think it is just a "get out of jail free card" and use it to do whatever they want, taking no responsibility. These idiots are but one of the many reasons the USA is on its 'way out'.

I do not know if our 'justice system' is any better than yours. I think our system has been reduced to what a society gets after years of misunderstood and misused freedoms. Seriously, Nylus, I pray you NEVER know exactly what that means.

But think of this (for whatever it is you blogged about). . . it may be a worn out phrase, but there really are two sides to every story. You are ever only going to get 'one' side from the involved individual and his family.
